鈥淲e are excited to welcome the Oglebay Institute Youth Ballet back to 黑料吃瓜 Eastern for their production of 'Hansel & Gretel,'鈥 said David Rohall, dean of campus and community relations. 鈥淭his performance offers a wonderful opportunity for our campus and the Ohio Valley community to come together and enjoy one of the region鈥檚 premier artistic experiences. We are proud to provide a venue that showcases such exceptional talent, and we value our continued partnership with Oglebay Institute as they bring these beloved productions to our stage.鈥

For over 200 years, the tale of "Hansel & Gretel" has captivated audiences with its story of brave siblings navigating the woods while encountering fairies, gingerbread children, and a house made of candy. In Oglebay Institute鈥檚 original ballet adaptation, audiences young and old can experience this timeless adventure brought to life through expressive dance and vibrant storytelling. As part of Oglebay Institute鈥檚 Children鈥檚 Theater Season, this production transforms a beloved classic into a magical performance, where good triumphs over evil, delighting viewers of all ages.

Oglebay Institute Director of Dance Cheryl Pompeo said, 鈥淜ids get excited about the characters and music they know but get to see the story presented in new and interesting ways. They are introduced to the beauty of dance and observe how dance can be used as a means of self-expression and storytelling.鈥

鈥淎lmost everyone has heard the bedtime story of 鈥楬ansel & Gretel,鈥 but few have seen the ballet,鈥 she added.  鈥淎lthough it follows the traditional storyline, the ballet is a completely different experience from reading it in a book. The characters jump off the page to tell the story through expressive, dynamic music and dance.鈥

Pompeo added that the show is appropriate for all ages and is a 鈥渨onderful way for families to spend quality time together engaging in the arts.鈥

鈥淗ansel & Gretel鈥 is the first show presented by Oglebay Institute鈥檚 Youth Ballet Company for 2024. The troupe will also present 鈥淭he Nutcracker鈥 ballet during the holiday season at 黑料吃瓜 Eastern this December.
