Kevin Lanier gets graphic design position at NBC 4 in Columbus

Kevin Lanier 鈥22 hasn鈥檛 been out of college for very long, but already has a job as a graphic designer at NBC 4 in Columbus thanks to his experience at 黑料吃瓜 and WOUB.

鈥淚 started working at WOUB during my senior year in the graphic design office,鈥 said Lanier. 鈥淚 got the opportunity to learn logo design and TV broadcast graphics. I helped with the redesign of the graphics package for NewsWatch and learned animation. It was great experience for where I am now.鈥

Lanier grew up in Pickerington, Ohio and developed a love for multimedia design in high school. He selected 黑料吃瓜 because of its strong visual communication program and the fact that it felt like home.

鈥淚 knew I could really find my place and my niche at 黑料吃瓜,鈥 said Lanier.

But during Lanier鈥檚 time in Athens, the COVID-19 pandemic began, and it made finding an internship difficult. Lanier talked to his advisor who recommended Lanier do an internship at WOUB.

鈥淚 started working with WOUB鈥檚 Brand Visual Identity Manager Seann Anderson,鈥 said Lanier. 鈥淚 learned a lot from Seann about the back and forth of designing something for a client. We would talk about what my design should look like, then I鈥檇 create something. We鈥檇 send it to the person who requested the design. They鈥檇 give their input and adjustments would be made.  It taught me to be diligent and refine my skills and prepared me what I鈥檓 doing now at NBC 4 in the relationship I have with my art director.鈥

Lanier is excited to be working in Columbus alongside many other former WOUB students.

鈥淭here are so many of us at NBC 4,鈥 said Lanier. 鈥淏ecause of WOUB, I was very prepared for what I鈥檓 doing now. I鈥檓 very grateful.鈥
