黑料吃瓜

Ecohouse Resident Projects

Each semester, Ecohouse residents are required to complete a final project as a part of their 1-credit Ecohouse Seminar course. These projects can range from studies of the onsite campus/community garden to an expansion upon personal interests in sustainability topics. Examples of past projects can be found below:

Ecohouse Garden Fence: First Insight for Food Sovereignty

By Pao Munoz

This project provides an insightful overview of issues relating to food access and sovereignty in Athens city and the surrounding county, focusing on 黑料吃瓜 students and potential resources available to them. Additionally, it outlines potential paths forward and opportunities for strengthening the food security network to better include students' needs. See the full presentation here.

Solar Systems Repair & Sustainable Hair Care

By Elle Dickerman

A merging of Dickerman's two Ecohouse projects, this powerpoint - linked below - explores the function of the Ecohouse's solar photovoltaic and thermal systems, outlining the ways in which they may need to be repaired to maximize functionality. Additionally, the "Sustainable Hair Care" project takes a hands-on approach to creating recipes for more sustainable, money-saving personal hygiene products. Both projects can be explored here.

Monarch Waystation

By Tristan Mandeville

This project first studies the life cycles of local monarch butterfly populations and proceeds to outline ways in which human interventions may provide valuable habitats and food sources to this species. Mandeville's proposal for a monarch waystation to be established on the Ecohouse property demonstrates the kinds of hands-on, active learning that the Ecohouse Seminar projects encourage. The full presentation can be viewed here.
